Evaluation of Jan de Voogd Peace Fund

BRIEF
Jan de Voogd was as Quaker peace activities who, on his death in 2021, left his estate to Quakers NSW to be spent on projects fostering peace and social justice. The fund distributed $2.36 million across 31 projects, which were required to reflect the Quaker testimonies of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality and sustainability. The projects cover areas of reconciliation, disarmament, non-violent conflict resolution, improve race relations and social justice, in Australia and overseas.
NSF Consulting was commissioned to evaluate the Jan de Voogd Peace Fund for its key successes, challenges and lessons learned during the Fund’s administration, the outcomes and impacts and the transferability of the model for future philanthropic efforts within the Quaker community and beyond.
APPROACH
41 in-depth interviews were conducted with 29 representatives of projects (covering 23 projects), 4 unsuccessful applications, 4 Fund Committee members and 4 stakeholders representing Quaker Services Australia and Quakers Australia. A Program Logic Model and Evaluation Framework were developed to guide the process.
A full evaluation report and summary evaluation report were prepared for different audiences. A presentation of findings was also given to the sector following adoption of the report.
