Social Research into Waste Management
City of Sydney2009
BRIEF
The City of Sydney Council provides support and education about waste management to businesses in its local government area.
Social research was required amongst small to medium enterprises to explore how Council can better support and educate businesses about waste management and what form that education should take.
APPROACH
The social research involved both qualitative and quantitative research. In-depth interviews were conducted with business chambers and businesses across the LGA, and an online survey carried with local businesses on Council’s data base.
A Social Research Report was prepared that detailed findings from the project, and included multi-media case studies profiling personal stories of businesses. Strategic recommendations were made that gave Council an understanding of how its waste management partners could assist businesses to increase their resource recovery rates.
