Evaluation

Evaluation of The Book Clubs

Australia Council for the Arts
2009

BRIEF

In 2003, The Big Book Club Inc. was established in South Australia as a not for profit arts organisation committed to the promotion of reading, literature and Australian authors and illustrators.  Among its aims were to encourage reading throughout Australia and to support, encourage and impart knowledge to parents and carers about the importance of reading to children from an early age.  The program was funded by Australia Council for the Arts.

The Australia Council for the Arts needed to measure the performance of these two book clubs including their appropriateness, effectiveness and efficiency, against the stated objectives of the two programs.

APPROACH

The evaluation included in-depth interviews with registered users of the programs (readers), as well as analysis of background information and internal acquittal reports.
An evaluation report was prepared that detailed the outcomes of the evaluation and included recommendations for the future direction of the program.
